The Context of Change: Silvertown, London

Influenced by the ideology of Commoning. Commons, once a paradigm, is more than a political or policy agenda, and is more of an active living process. This lead me to further investigate regeneration projects with reference to Millennium Mills, Silvertown London which is a £3.5 billion regeneration project, the central component being a derelict flour- mill. The visual language of photography allowed me to explore the social connection to the surrounding community. The project will enable new aspirations and identities to be created in the area. When investigating and developing a visual language for this project, it became apparent that the building itself is omnipresent within an extensive surrounding area. The building maintains a presence and personality despite being derelict and gives a sense of anchorage to the community.
